Heat it up!
The trusty propane Bernzomatic has been useful for several projects, maintenance jobs and upgrades on the Scion tC through the years. In most cases I wont hestitate to heat up a part to break up corrosion.
A few notable times I busted out the Bernzo
Using heat to remove the CV Axle carrier bearing over to the replacement unit
Using heat to remove the motor mount bushing sleeve for upgrading to urethane bushings.
Using heat to remove the bushing sleeve for lower control arm polyurethane bushing upgrade
Using heat to remove a stuck bleeder bolt on my Wilwood BBK restore project
Using heat to remove the bushing sleeve on the rear trailing arm

The Bernzonatic comes in two variants
- Blue bottle – propane gas
- Yellow bottle MAP-Pro (propylene mixture), burns hotter than propane
- Bernzomatic auto start/stop igniter trigger
- Knock off igniter trigger (works fine for me)

Bernzomatic nozzles regular and with igniter
1. Break Free Stuck or Rusted Fasteners
Heat is one of the most effective ways to deal with seized bolts and nuts.
- Expands metal to break rust bonds
- Often works when penetrating oil alone won’t
- Saves time and reduces the risk of snapping bolts
2. Versatility Beyond Automotive Repairs
A Bernzomatic torch can be used for other projects
- Heat shrink tubing and electrical work
- Bending or shaping metal
- Loosening adhesives, sealants, and threadlocker
- Great for plumbing, fabrication, and general shop use
It’s one of the most multi-purpose tools per dollar you can own.
3. Portable, Simple, and No Power Required
Unlike electric heat tools, a torch works anywhere.
- No cords, outlets, or compressors
- Quick setup and instant heat
- Compact enough to keep in a toolbox or trunk
Perfect for roadside fixes, junkyard trips, or working in tight spaces.
