- The chances of hyrdo lock are real with a CAI. If you live where it rains a lot, consider a short ram intake instead
- 2005/2006 Intakes WILL NOT FIT 2007-2010 model years.
If you’re shopping for an aftermarket air intake for a 2005–2006 Scion tC, there’s a big compatibility detail that often gets overlooked: those intake systems won’t directly fit 2007 and newer tC models, and the main reason is the MAF housing design.
On 2005–2006 Scion tC models, the mass airflow sensor (MAF) housing is physically different in both shape and orientation compared to later years. Toyota revised the intake and MAF setup starting in 2007, changing the housing diameter, mounting flange, and sensor placement.

Other Parts Used
- AEM 20-401S 2.5″ Air Bypass Valve, any 2.5″ bypass valve will work
- Pre filter / Hyrdo shield: Injen Red Hydroshield p/n 1033RED
- Standoffs / Isolators: I had to buy these separate, Injen part 6020.
- Reducer hose @ Throttle body: Came with the used setup. You should know it’s a 2.75″ to 2.50″ reducer/coupler.
- Hose Clamps: I’m just using standard 2.5″ hose clamps, nothing fancy.
- Hump Hose or coupler
- Now is the time to clean your throttle body and MAF sensor.
