The oem brake light is only the middle section of the light. There is an upgrade that gives you the full length brake light lit up. You can find this part on Amazon!
This mod goes well with fixing your hatch gate trim, if you haven’t done so already since you’ll have the whole assembly apart.
After

I prefer the full red taillight, I like the accent. I also feel the added visibility of a full brake light adds a bit to the safety or visibility factor. Meaning when you brake you’re more lit up for anyone behind you to see.
There is also a full length options for smoked out light
Beware that some aftermarket brake lights are NOT LIT THE FULL LENGTH like the one shown below.

Installation Tips
- Remove the hatch lift gate trim. Remove the 2 metal brackets. Use 10mm sock to remove the remaining bolts. Now would be a good time to fix your hatch gate lift handle if you haven’t already.
-
Remove as much of the old gasket as you can. Don’t stack gaskets (the old and new) it will just leak.
-
DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN when reinstalling. You will break the plastic that the studs are melted into.
-
The stock nuts are always loose from vibration. I went the extra mile and purchased M5-0.8 stainless steel nylon locking nuts. Locking nuts tighten snug and they won’t back out from vibration (sound system, road vibration, etc).
- Super handy tool to have – bolt and thread checker tool.
