Removing sun visor warning decal labels using isopropyl alcohol for a clean look

In this article I’ll show you how I removed the annoying warning decals/labels on the sun visors for a cleaner interior look. I used isopropyl alcohol, a wire brush, and elbow grease.

Use isopropyl alcohol

On YouTube you’ll see most people soak a paper towel with isopropyl alcohol, then place it on the label and put plastic over it.  The 1st gen Scion tC sun visor labels appear to be ironed on, so that process helped a little bit, but I wasn’t able to peel the label off easily. Plus, that thing has been caked on for over 18 years at this point.

I used a wire brush to scrape the label off, and surprisingly the fabric held up well. Take your time, it will be about 15-20 minutes per sun visor.

I tried this first, like everyone else on the interwebs. It softened the label up a tad, but didn’t really work that well for the tC sun visors.

I went with a wire brush, I scored the label then slowly scraped it off using light pressure. The 18 year old fabric held up well.

You can also use an iron to soften the adhesive

For my black sun visors, I discovered I could use an iron to soften the adhesive and get the label off more cleanly without having to pick or pry at the glue. If I had known this I probably would have just used this method instead
