In this article I will start the process of blacking out my interior. I’ll start by replacing as many parts as I can with an actual black Toyota part or aftermarket replacement part in black before doing any paint, wrap or dye. My goal is to minimize the amount of painting done, even though with some parts it will be inevitable.
Part 1 Interior blackout covers these
- OEM style all black sunvisors
- OEM Black sun visor clips
- OEM Black grab handles
- OEM black out door pulls
- OEM black rear dome light
- OEM black front dome light (painted)
The interior color code for black is “C0”
If you’re looking for black parts for Toyota, use “C0” at the end of the part to see if there is a black counterpart. For example, grey is B0.
-
A grey part would be 74348-12040-B0 (grey sun visor clip)
-
A black part would be 74348-12040-C0 (black sun visor clip)
You can use this similar tactic for blackout interiors on other car manufacturers. Find the interior color code for “black” with that manufacturer and then cross reference other model lines to see if they made a similar part for that car in black. Be sure to check over seas offerings and models to see if there is anything in the NON-USA market that might fit your car/build.
The TC1 interior is more of a dark grey to begin with
For this project I’ll only be focusing on the upper half of the interior, the center console, and some other (non-black) trim parts
Black door pulls instead of chrome
I started off my search by replacing the chrome door pulls. I found a set of (already black) door pulls on eBay for Toyota cars. This was a direct pop and swap for $14 for both left and right assemblies. For a high traffic part such as a door pull my primary goal was to find an already black part, and it worked out great.

It’s worth noting that these replacement handles are plastic and the original OEM chrome door handle is chrome (and more robust). The replacements do feel “cheap” FYI.

All black Sun Visors
The TC2 sun visors do not fit the TC1, they are too short. For the longest time I could only find the TC1 sun visor LEFT (Driver side) in all black. I want the all black visor including the hinge hardware, the mirror trim, and the peg that mounts to the headliner clip. I finally found a set on Amazon, I’m not sure if they were New Old Stock or if a short run was made. Here are the links you need:

Here are my black sun visors with black sun visor clips and

Use M5-0.8 16mm countersunk screws to complete the visor blackout

Black sun visor clips
These are listed as “visor holder” in the Toyota parts catalog. P/N 74348-12040-C0 I got these from eBay.

Grab handles aka Grip Assists
Next I tackle the grab handles. I’ve also seen these called ceiling pulls, roof pulls, etc. The official Toyota parts catalog calls these “grip assists“. From what I can tell, there are several different ones that fit. As long as the on-center measurement is the same as the Scion tC then it should fit.
Part Number 74610-06120-C0 also 74610-12140-C0 will work.
Both require minor modification (see below)
During install make sure the metal clip grabs behind the rectangle install hole, you’ll hear it click into place. If not, you may need to slightly bend out the metal clip to make for a tighter fit back into the rectangle hole. This ensures the handle doesn’t get yanked out when you use it.
74610-12140-C0 Modification

When installing you need to make sure the metal tabs “grab” the back side of the rectangle hole. This is what holds all the weight. Once installed, test the grab handle. It should hold your weight when used to assist exiting the vehicle/seat. If it pops out, try the install again. If you need to, slowly bend the metal tab out (widen it) so that snaps into the rectangle hole during installation.

74610-06120-C0 modification
For this model grip you MIGHT have make the tab thinner to fit the hole in the roof. They are side specific. Here you’ll see the material I cut off marked in SILVER. I used an edge/detail sander to take thin that tab. I used this p/n for the passenger side. It might have been a better fit for the driver side but I already used the 74610-12140-C0 on the driver side.

Rear dome light in black
Finally the rear dome light. I found out that there are a TON of Toyotas that use the similar base for the rear dome light. I found this while searching for an LED mod for the rear dome, the part I landed on Amazon had a cross reference chart for compatible vehicles, and that told me that these vehicles all use the same base for the rear dome assembly.
Here’s the part that clued me in:

So now, I just shop for a rear dome light for any Toyota on this list, with color code “C0” on the part number. For example 81240-02080-C0. I ended up purchasing one on eBay for the TC2. Some minor trimming was involved, see photos below.

Here’s the final look w/ the clear lens smoke tinted (wrap).
Part 2 – Stay tuned! Here what’s left
– sunroof pull shade, not sure what I’m going to do here, 3d scan and 3d print?
– front dome light housing and buttons, paint black, smoke tint the clear lens
– seatbelt B Pillar pull track (plastic, high traffic, 3D print?)
– HVAC buttons, remove silver paint
– center console, paint black (piano black?)
– headliner, wrap in black suede? paint?
– upper A, B and C pillar trims, wrap in suede
– rear hatch trim, wrap in suede
